So we created Astrid Lindgren's World
and Sweden's strongest brand and
made Vimmerby to a tourist city with close to 500,000 visitors per year
Sometime in 1987/88 I was contacted by three families who run the Sagobyn in Vimmerby. A village with some miniature environments from Astrid Lindgren's authorship. Their wish was to involve me as chairman of their board. The reason was that a few years earlier I had donated the miniature houses to the environment "Lotta on Bråkmakargatan" and I had followed their projects during my time in Gullringen. It became the beginning of a dialogue about what could be done with Sagobyn and I saw a fantastic development opportunity for one of the most attractive tourism tourists have. I agreed with the families to take over ownership in Sagobyn, provided that Astrid Lindgren blessed this and that Astrid agreed to a change of name to "Astrid Lindgren's World".
I met Astrid Lidngren and told about my plans, the condition was that the plant changed its name to Astrid Lindgren's World, which Astrid was firmly opposed to. In order for her to understand how important the name change was, I explained to her that in Sagobyn there you can expose anything, the Moomintroll, the pelvic tail, the mouse pig etc, but in Astrid Lindgren's World, only what can be found that has its roots in Astrid's authorship further I meant that Astrid's books had been read by my generation, Astrid's films they have been seen by my children but my grandchildren they will visit Astrid Lindgren's World. Then Astrid raped me on the cheek with the words "Va´ä du fören" and then she agreed that the plant was named Astrid Lindgren's World and then followed a development work which led to a dramatic increase in the number of visitors and became what developed Vimmerby into a tourist town .
When I presented my plans to the municipal council in Vimmerby to develop the Sagobyn to Astrid Lindgren's World and make this something big, then they looked at the floor and did not believe in my plans at all.
